The definition of lunch is when every student is guaranteed freedom, expression and ability to eat food. This is the time of the day where students get to socialize but now, even the freedoms of lunch have begun to fade. We thank the coronavirus for these adjustments.

Students feel that their own lunch shifts are less prioritized than others. It is a priority to have students succeed and feel part of the school community. Not feeling that they caught Covid or didn’t get lunch today.

There have been instances where the menu will change after second lunch to ensure every student gets a meal. Students from earlier lunches should be considerate of others and lunch ladies should charge students money every time they take an extra lunch.

“You cannot take multiple bags of lunches,” Assistant Principal Benjamin Diggs has said during the morning announcements multiple times.

Students should be separated into different floors in the school so that everyone can feel more safe at school. They would get their lunch from the cafeteria, then hang out in their classrooms and they would have that option or to stay in the cafeteria.

“Everyone in the [lunch] halls are elbow to elbow,” senior Patricia Hernandez said. “I feel like after, I would love it if we had a little more people putting their mask back on.”

During hybrid learning last year, there was six-foot spacing between desks. This year, however, that changed when round and long tables came back. Students are in close quarters with each other and there is close to no mask wearing. It is hard to tell whether a student is taking off their mask for comfort or they are eating their food.
