Jackson Wallace entered high school with ambition, confidence and big dreams, dreams some freshmen dare to voice; on February 5, against the Brooke Point Black Hawks, he watched those dreams become reality.
Wallace scored his 1400th career point, shattering the school’s 52 year old record. After earning his 1000th career point milestone just last season, this was definitely the icing on the cake.
Over the course of his Sophomore and Junior season Wallace earned multiple player of the year awards along with multiple player of the game awards, establishing himself as one of the most dominant players in the program. Now, in his senior season he stands poised to win that title one last time. Wallace has transitioned from being just a freshman on varsity to a record-breaking phenom.
Despite the magnitude of the moment, on Thursday against the Black Hawks, his only focus was one thing: winning. “You came through this long journey,” Wallace says, “ so you should try to complete your goals as completely as possible.”
As the game unfolded the gym buzzed with anticipation; however, Wallace stayed humble.
It came down to the last shot.
When the shot sank through the nylon net, the crowd erupted with celebration. For Wallace this moment was overwhelming. “It felt like a weight lifting off of my shoulders,” he said. “I never thought I would make it this far,” Wallace added.
The moment was more than just a stat; it was proof that the hard work and sacrifice he put in really does pay off in the end.
Balancing the expectations of breaking a record with academics and everyday life is never an easy task. But Wallace approached his balance with discipline and focus, “I don’t really do much outside of basketball but I try to keep a pretty good balance between that, homework and some chill time.” For Wallace, It’s all about the good time management skills and mindset you have when it comes to being a student-athlete.
A natural leader on the court, Wallace works hard in the offseason, even asking his coach how he can improve as a player. He stays dedicated to growing better every practice and game. “Jackson is a good student and kid, and there’s nothing not to like about the things that he’s done for our basketball program,” said head coach Stephen Hibberd.
Wallace’s advice to younger athletes is simple but powerful: Stay patient with your time and never compare yourself to other people. Everyone’s path is different.
Once Wallace broke the scoring record, Hibb
erd immediately called a timeout so the team could celebrate together. “We all took a quick minute to celebrate it.”
When Wallace walked off the court for the final time, he will leave more behind than a broken record; he will leave a blueprint for every freshman with a dream. Wallace is walking proof that discipline and patience can turn ambition into legacy.
Jackson Wallace didn’t just chase history. He earned it.
