We all know that football players have to be at every game, it’s a commitment that they make. But what about students? Students typically attend home games more than away games due to them being closer and more people they know go to them.
The only exception is the Battle of the Bell. Battle of the Bell is more than just a game; it’s a competition, a competition for a bell between Stafford High School and North Stafford High School, considered a rivalry.
Players think it’s going to be a good and intense game. Their goal is to win, but their ultimate goal is to keep the bell which they’ve had for two years consecutively. This is more than just a game for players and coaches, it’s an annual tradition.
The cheerleaders will be there as well, except this time they’re going to be dressed up. Decked out head to toe, these cheerleaders will bring twice the energy.
“We get to dress up in costumes for the football game!” Kinsley Updyke, a sophomore, said excitedly in a recent interview. While we don’t know what their costumes are yet, surely they have something fun planned for us to see, along with their cheers.
Because it’s on Halloween, temperatures are going to drop severely. Playing at 9 p.m. in late October isn’t the most ideal. Players and cheerleaders are going to be cold even when playing.
Junior Shaniya Smith, a cheerleader at SHS stated, “We’re going to perform well no matter what, we’ve cheered in the cold before and we did good so as long as we stay kind of warm, we’ll be okay,” she said. No matter what the Weather App reads, the show must go on.
The score will likely be close but the players believe they’ll come out on top yet again, but it’s going to be a tough fight. Not only is North Stafford a solid team, but they also have the advantage because it’s on their home turf. However, lots of costumes mean lots of energy. This game happens once every seven years, so it’s a game people definitely don’t want to miss.
