After three years of rising anticipation, FromSoftware’s newest title, Elden Ring, has shocked the gaming community. The game was received with great praise on both YouTube and on various gaming magazines when it was released on Feb. 25 2022. 

The proverbial child was birthed from the minds of George R.R. Martin and Hidetaka Miyazaki, ans is a vast open world role-playing game with stunning graphics and polished gameplay. Gamers around the world have begun to fall in love with the fantastical adventure of Elden Ring. 

Elden Ring takes players to a vast world filled with stunning environments and diverse locales. The world of “the lands between” is lovingly filled to the brim with dozens of secrets to uncover, and characters to meet. Gamers will experience these attractions in hope of becoming Elden Lord. For players, this is an introduction to the works of FromSoftware; however, even amongst other FromSoftware titles, Elden Ring is unique.

When comparing previous FromSoftware titles like Bloodborne and Dark Souls to Elden Ring, that Elden Ring is less linear, often leading players to feel lost in what they need to do. However, with this lack in linearity comes a new-found freedom for the player, allowing them to explore the breathtaking landscapes the game has to offer. 

Also when comparing Elden Ring to other FromSoftware titles, it is necessary to consider the titanic world of Elden Ring. After nearly 100 hours of gameplay, I am still surprised by finding a previously unknown area or a “secret boss”. 

Elden Ring sets a new standard for video game immersion. When you boot up the game, it can feel as if the hours tick by like seconds on a clock. Being able to feel like you are physically traveling the vast world of Elden Ring is an eye-opening experience.

“It’s amazing how massive the world of Elden Ring is and at the same time the world is so densely packed with new battles and lore,” Devlyn Hurley says. In such a short amount of time since its release,  Elden Ring has already become a cult classic, standing shoulder to shoulder with the rest of FromSoftware’s prestigious lineup of games and I personally feel that it will soon be a shining beacon for all video games to follow.

The long awaited release of Elden Ring has left the gaming community in awe of just how intricate the game truly is. With all the content packed into it, Elden Ring will have a place in gaming history.
