There’s something oddly fascinating about the great divide between freshmen and seniors. Maybe it’s the way seniors catwalk around like they’re in a fashion show, or freshmen still figuring out which bathroom is the “good one” (we all know it’s the 2nd floor ones). It’s like the freshmen just got here yesterday, but the seniors in their oh so majestic, ancient wisdom, seem like they’ve been here for eons. So, who truly wins this epic battle of ages? The answer is pretty obvious: the seniors. At least according to 18 of our teachers.
A recent poll of 30 of our Stafford High School teachers revealed that a devastating 60% prefer to teach seniors, with only 12 brave souls saying they enjoy our new, chaotic, unpredictable freshmen. This honestly isn’t shocking. After all, seniors have survived the hunger games of what we call our hallways while our freshmen are still figuring out how to get to their classes without a GPS.
Freshmen: Ready (But not so ready)
Freshmen are new, but they’re starting to get the hang of the prison we call Stafford High School. Freshman Aiden Gutierrez says “Honestly, it feels way better than middle school. It’s definitely calmer.” But a similar fear we all face– failing our classes. “My biggest fear was failing my classes.” Freshman year is a whirl of chaos and confusion, but to Aiden’s surprise. “Coming here was not as scary as I thought it would be.”
Freshman Inariah Wiltshire is keeping it real about how chaotic things are. “It’s very chaotic.” When asked about a fear of hers, she responds with. “A lot of drama, like seeing drama happen really badly to the point where it goes to a fight.” Yeah, drama in high school is real, and you don’t even need to go see our theater teachers for that.
The Tribe ahead of Time
Seniors? They’ve seen it all. They’re the pros, strolling through the hallways like they own them (most of them still prefer the side stairwells). Sade Barbieri, a Stafford High School senior, had this to say about our freshmen coming in. “I mean, they’re a lot quieter than when we were freshmen. Like at the first pep rally, they were all sitting down.” Just a heads up for the freshmen. Pep rallies are all about standing up, clapping, and yelling. You’ll get there! Eventually.
When asked if she feels more comfortable now than as a freshman, Sade says “Yes. The seniors in my freshmen year were very intimidating.” That’s because seniors are just like the weather outside. You never know what to predict, but you’ll definitely know when they’re around.
Laura Huber, another Stafford High School senior adds, “Some of them are really obnoxious… but then some of them are also calm. It all depends on who you meet.” While the freshmen are still figuring out how not to embarrass themselves every five minutes, our seniors have given up on caring about opinions. Seniors are more than likely sitting with their heads down on their desks trying to tune out the teachers.
The Final Showdown: Who Will Leave Victorious?
So, who really wins this battle of the ages? Drum roll please………. Class of 2026 Seniors!
They have the experience, the confidence, and the composure. But don’t count the freshmen out just yet. They’ve got three more years until they too learn how to ignore the drama, and most importantly figure out which bathroom is truly supreme. In the meantime, seniors enjoy your final year as our victors. Freshmen? Don’t worry. One day, you’ll be the ones on top of it all looking down at all the new chaotic kids while they all wonder how you’re so “non-chalant.”
