Class of 2025: A Look Back at the Stafford High School Experience

For most students here at Stafford, the last day of school for the 25-26 school year is May 29th. Every year I always look forward to that final day and count down the remaining days like Christmas or my Birthday. With all of that hope and optimism for summer then, we come back in 2 months and the process starts all over again. But on Graduation day May 30th, the class of 2025 will never be back.

Let that sink in. After Graduation, Seniors are free. The bird has left the nest. They can choose the next chapter of their lives by going to college, army, trade school, or who knows, its their life

People always tell me that high school is supposed to be the best four years of your life. Since I’m only a sophomore, I don’t think it’s best that I make such a drastic opinion, but rather ask the people that are so close to walking across the stage, and achieving the amazing goal of graduation.

As the end of the school year approaches, students like Julia Etu reflect on the significance of their high school experiences. Julia, a talented lacrosse and field hockey player, shared how sports have shaped her journey at Stafford.

“Throughout my time here at Stafford, lacrosse and field hockey have been a huge part of my experience. I have made some of my fondest high school memories either on the field or with the friends I have met through sports here,” Julia stated. In addition, she reflected on the deeper connections she built, saying, “I developed incredible relationships, not only with my teammates, but with my coaches, trainers, and our athletic director through sports.”

Those reflections show the impact of playing a sport can open many doors to one’s high school experience. While Julia will never forget these memories she acknowledges the challenges that come with being a student athlete.

“Being an athlete can be difficult at times because it is a lot to keep track of and can be hard to juggle academics and everything else. Although I get busy and sometimes stressed, I am grateful for sports because it has forced me to learn to manage my time. It makes me a better student because I have

to get my work done more efficiently while I am in season. Without high school sports I don’t think I would be the person or student I am today, so I am entirely grateful for Stafford and their athletic programs.”

Seniors Wade Harvey and Maddox Garrison had been best friends since their time at Ferry Farm Elementary School, and by high school, they were glued together and everyone knew it. Whether it was walking to class together, cracking jokes in the hallways, or pushing each other during workouts, they’re the perfect duo.

You know a friendship is strong when you’re alone and someone asks you “Where is the other one?”.

A few weeks ago I was walking my usual route to get to class, halfway to my class I often see Wade and Maddox walking together laughing and having a great time. But that day was different. Wade was walking all by himself. His face shocked me. Knowing Wade, he gives off the class clown vibe and always makes others around him happy. When he noticed me he said jokingly “My boyfriend Maddox isn’t here.”

Every year Wade and Maddox have attended Stafford, they both had made sure that they were there together on the nights of Homecoming and Prom.

“Whenever I found out who I was going with those nights, Wade would always be the first name I thought of. It just wouldn’t feel right to go without my day one.”Maddox said when asked about Prom and Homecoming

With that being said, it truly shows how strong Wade and Maddox’s friendship truly is. Many teachers know about their bond just as much as the students. Everyone knew if one was around, the other wasn’t too far behind.

Wade and Maddox will soon head in different directions, but no matter where life takes them, everyone at Stafford knows their story is one we’ll remember for years to come.

As the class of 2025 prepares for their next chapter, the stories of students like Julia, Wade, and Maddox remind us that high school is about more than just academics, it’s about the people you meet  and the memories you create. Whether it’s through sports or a strong friendship, Stafford High has given each of these students a great experience that seniors will never forget.
